CCI Standard Primers #41 (Small) 5.56mm Military / NATO Sensitivity 1000/ct

CCI Standard Primers 41 are small rifle primers built to U.S. military specifications for loading 5.56mm ammunition. The 41 uses a harder, thicker cup than a standard small rifle primer. That extra strength lowers the risk of a slam-fire in military-style semi-auto rifles. Many of those rifles run without a firing pin retraction spring.

CCI designed the 41 specifically for 5.56mm, and the same primer works for .223 Remington. It covers the two cartridges most AR-platform and semi-auto builders load. If you are feeding a gas gun, that mil-spec sensitivity and the stiffer cup are the reason this primer exists.

A mil-spec primer alone does not prevent a slam-fire. Headspace, chamber condition, firing pin shape and protrusion, bolt velocity, and case condition all factor in. Treat the 41 as one part of a safe gas-gun load and confirm the rest of your setup.

On the bench, the 41 gives you reliable, consistent ignition round after round. The modern non-corrosive, non-mercuric initiator mix burns clean, which keeps fouling down and makes cleanup easier after a long range session. That clean burn also means less residue building up in the primer pocket and around the case head.

CCI also made this primer more sensitive and easier to seat than older designs. That seating behavior pays off if you load on progressive or automated equipment. Smooth, predictable seating keeps a high-volume session moving without hangups.

Load development stays simple. The 41 uses the same load data as CCI Magnum primers. Work from published magnum data for your 5.56mm or .223 recipe and build from there.
